Choose the right round robin format
A round robin gives entrants multiple matches. In singles, players face other players. In fixed doubles, each pair stays together and meets every other team once in a full rotation. In rotating doubles, players enter individually and the draw favours new partners and varied opponents; it cannot promise every possible partnership in a short session.
Choose a pickleball bracket instead when one loss should eliminate an entrant and you need a clear route to a final. The bracket is shorter, but entrants may play only once.
Worked example: 8 doubles teams, 2 courts
Select Fixed doubles teams, enter 8 teams, use 2 courts, keep the suggested 7 rounds, and set 20 minutes per match with no rest between rounds. Turn off “Randomise starting order” to reproduce the first round below. The tool makes 28 matches over 14 court waves; the earliest planned finish from 09:00 is 13:40.
Round 1 · 09:00 · Court 1
Team 1 vs Team 8
Round 1 · 09:00 · Court 2
Team 2 vs Team 7
The other two round-one matches use the same courts at 09:20. Each team appears once in the round. Copy the full draw as text or print all rounds with court assignments and score boxes.
How long should you reserve the courts?
| Teams | Courts | Rounds | Matches | Byes | Court waves | Play time |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | 2 | 7 | 28 | 0 | 14 | 4 hr 40 min |
| 12 | 3 | 11 | 66 | 0 | 22 | 7 hr 20 min |
| 16 | 4 | 15 | 120 | 0 | 30 | 10 hr |
Court waves are consecutive slots across the available courts. Play time is a planning minimum with zero breaks or changeover. Actual games, score entry, warm-ups and overruns can extend the finish time. Fewer courts add waves; rotating doubles uses a different, usually shorter round count.
Agree scoring before the first game
The generator schedules opponents, courts and times; it does not choose a pickleball scoring rule or turn handwritten scores into standings. For example, an organiser could announce one side-out-scored game to 11, win by 2, or choose a rally-scored game with a stated target and win margin. Put the chosen rule and tie-break order on the printed sheet so every court uses the same format. Up to five game-score boxes are provided for recording results on paper.

Frequently asked questions
How many rounds should we play?
For singles or fixed teams, a full rotation takes one fewer round than the number of entrants when that number is even. The suggested number is capped at 30. Rotating doubles starts with a shorter social schedule; you can replace the suggested round count.
What happens with uneven player numbers?
A singles player or fixed team may have a bye. In rotating doubles, players rest when the count is not divisible by four or when there are more players than court places (four per court). The schedule names those resting and spreads rests across rounds.
Can doubles partners change?
Yes. Choose rotating doubles for changing partners and an individual entry list. Choose fixed doubles teams when partners stay together for every match.
Does this tool calculate standings from scores?
No. The printout has score boxes, but the free round robin tool makes a schedule rather than validating scores or ranking entrants. Agree scoring and tie-break rules before play, or use NextArena's event software for live results.
