Free bracket generator

Set up your bracket

Add singles players or fixed doubles teams. Each match eliminates one entrant; a bye advances an entrant without a match.

Draw order

Seeded gives the highest seeds byes first. Your name order is seed order; random draw reshuffles on Regenerate.

Add names (optional)

Paste a list below, or type a entrant in each row. Names are in seed order. Missing names get numbered labels.

When to use a knockout bracket

A single-elimination bracket is useful when you want a winner within fewer matches: every result sends one entrant forward. For a social session where every player or team should have several games, use the pickleball round robin generator instead. This free bracket supports singles entrants and fixed doubles teams; it does not rotate partners or generate double elimination.

Worked example: 8 teams, 2 courts

Choose a seeded draw, 8 fixed teams, 2 courts and 30-minute match slots starting at 09:00. The generator makes 7 matches across 3 stages. Its first two quarterfinals are:

    09:00 · Court 1 · Match 1

    Entrant 1 vs Entrant 8

    09:00 · Court 2 · Match 2

    Entrant 4 vs Entrant 5

The other quarterfinals start at 09:30 on those courts. Semifinal slots name “Winner of Match …” until results are known, followed by the final. The earliest planned finish is 11:00; actual progress depends on completed matches. Copy or print the entire bracket with seeds, byes, court slots and up to five game-score boxes per match.

A bracket with N entrants always has N−1 played matches. Byes advance entrants without a match. Court waves are counted separately in each stage so a later round never begins before its earlier stage's planned slots. Play time excludes changeover, warm-up, score entry and overruns; later-round times are provisional.

    Set your match scoring rule

The free bracket does not choose a pickleball scoring preset. Tell entrants whether each match is one game or a best-of series, the point target, whether scoring is side-out or rally, and the win margin. Record each played game in the printed boxes and manually write the winner into the next slot. For validated scores, automatic progression and a public schedule, use NextArena pickleball tournament software.

    Frequently asked questions

    How does single elimination work?

The winner of each match advances and the loser is eliminated. An eight-entrant bracket has seven matches: four quarterfinals, two semifinals and a final.

What if the entrant count is not a power of two?

The bracket uses byes to fill the next power-of-two shape. For 12 entrants, four receive first-round byes and 11 matches are played overall. In seeded mode, those byes go to the highest seeds.

    Can I seed the bracket?

Yes. Enter players or fixed doubles teams in seed order and choose Seeded. Random draw shuffles the first round; you can regenerate it before using the printout.

    Are later match times guaranteed?

No. Later rounds show winner placeholders and provisional planning times. Start those matches only after the prerequisite winners are known and the courts are ready.

Does the free bracket process scores?

No. It includes up to five game-score boxes on the printable bracket, but it does not validate results, advance winners automatically or publish a live bracket.
